Rating: ★★★★☆

Genre: Fantasy, Thriller
Main Cast: Joe Byeong-Gyu, Yu Jun-Sang, Kim Se-Jeong, Yum Hye-Ran

SYNOPSIS

A group of Counters are tasked to fight off evil spirits that possess humans with tendencies to commit crimes. When one of them dies in a battle with an extremely strong evil spirit, he was immediately replaced with a high school student. The Counters are disguised as a family with a very popular hole-in-the-wall noodle restaurant. Their powers include sensing humans possessed with evil spirits, reading people's memories, extreme strength, and an ability to heal others quickly.

THE GOOD

The Uncanny Counter is an engaging thriller with satisfying fight scenes. The effects were pretty cool too.

Actors: All actors, main and supporting, were great. Joe Byeong-Gyu was surprising for me since I just saw him with a fun role in Hot Stove League.

Key takeaways: There were a lot of bullying scenes in TUC so this is one of the major takeaways for me. With so many real bullying issues globally and with South Korean celebrities even getting involved in bullying scandals, I really hope this culture stops and that educational systems become more proactive in dealing with this issue. Of course, everything starts at home and I think the difference in the home environment of the protagonist and the antagonist shows how nurturing kids greatly affect how they grow up. TUC was also able to show that having a few good friends is much better than having a lot who only bring you harm.

THE MEH

I loved most of the fight scenes but ironically, it's the final one that was lacking as it left me a bit unsatisfied.

WHO IS THE UNCANNY COUNTER FOR?

If you love fantasy and action series, I think TUC won't disappoint.
