Review: Mr. Queen (2020)

SYNOPSIS

A present-day Blue House Chef gets into trouble and accidentally drowns while he was being chased by the police. When he wakes up, he finds himself inside the body of a Joseon Queen.


THE GOOD

IT. WAS. HILARIOUS. ALL CAPS para intense.😂

I don't think I've ever seen a South Korean drama that was as funny as Mr. Queen. But don't take this show lightly just because it's a comedy. If you watch it, you'll see that it's full of substance. I loved how cooking/food blended with its political theme because I personally believe that food can be a great instrument in achieving world peace.✌ That's just me though. Geun-de, I've seen in MQ that it could actually be possible. 

The actors, main and supporting, were all fantastic. No role felt irrelevant. Also, what added hilarity to the show were the characters that are mean or serious. Hye-Sun and Jung-Hyung were of course, exceptional. The twists and plots were even more unpredictable because of their acting.

I was impressed with the story flow, essentially with how everything was executed. It will entertain you most of the time but once it ends, you will go back to society with renewed interest in critical thinking and patriotism. 


THE MEH

About 2 episodes were not too exciting but only because it's really difficult for me to watch any show that involves the dynasties, the palace, or the hanbok. I also felt like losing one of the characters was unnecessary. 


WHO IS MR. QUEEN FOR?

Anyone who wants to laugh out loud and enjoy a brilliantly-produced show. Also, those who want to gain more insights about proper governance. Do you watch BL series? You can probably categorize MQ as one too.😁

Review: Strongest Deliveryman (2017)

He had a lot of personal and professional challenges. On top of sustaining his business and helping small restaurants, he needed to compete  against a conglomerate that aims to shut them down. While I appreciate how it conveyed the importance of grit and determination when pursuing one's goals, I also liked the way it showed the reality that there are people who just feel hopeless in a place that's supposed to be their home. Some people prefer moving to a foreign land because they feel that their country and their government have failed them.   The issues addressed in the show may be serious but the delivery was actually entertaining. That's the dilemma shown in Go Back Couple. As a married couple, the lead characters experience a lot of challenges day in and day out. When they reached their breaking point, they finally decide to live their lives separately. Bur right after filing for divorce and after throwing their wedding bands, they wake up the next day and find themselves living in the past. Fantasy series are usually complicated and would require so much focus and attention but GBC is not like that at all. The story was written smoothly so it was easy to watch.
